# App Builder overview

> Apps, navigation, and pages — and who can build them.

Most of Ocho's sidebar is organized into **applications**: labeled groups of pages. (A few items sit outside any application — **Home** at the top, and **Get help now**, **Settings**, and your user menu at the bottom.) Alongside the built-in applications, your company can create its own — custom apps with their own navigation and pages, built through chat rather than code.

## Key concepts

- **Applications** — sidebar groups. Which ones appear depends on your

company's subscription and each item's role requirements.

- **Pages** — what a navigation item opens: a list of records, a record

workspace with tabs, or a fully custom page.

- **Custom apps** — apps your company owns. They are listed under

**App Builder > My Apps** and served under the private `/app/my/` section of your workspace. (The App Builder group also holds **SDUI Pages**, **SDUI Widgets**, and **SDUI Imports**, where the building blocks of custom apps are managed.)

- **The app copilot** — each custom app has a chat-driven App Workspace

("Build this app with me") that can attach data tables and pages and shape the navigation your teammates see. Changes always ask for your approval first.

- **The UI Builder** — a separate chat-driven page copilot that generates and

modifies an app's custom pages; you describe what you want, review the draft, and publish it live.

## Who can do what

- Creating apps requires the **App Admin** role.
- Building pages requires the **UI Builder** role. (A new app's

**Create your first page** button additionally requires the UI-builder feature on your subscription.)

## Good to know

- The builder controls only appear if you hold the matching role — being a

workspace admin is not enough on its own. If you don't see **New App** or the page-builder controls, ask an admin to grant you the **App Admin** or **UI Builder** role.

- A brand-new custom app opens to a placeholder page titled "Your new app"

until a page is built for it. Users without the UI Builder role see: "Ask an admin to grant you the role, or contact 2men for whiteglove implementation."
