# Tune responses

> Adjust creativity, length, and model per message, and switch conversation modes.

## Per-message settings

Click the **Sources · N** button (the sliders icon) in the composer toolbar. It opens a combined popover: the top half is the dataset source picker, and below it are the response settings. On mobile the same panel opens as a drawer titled **Sources & Settings**.

- **Temperature** (0.0–1.5) — lower is more precise and repeatable, higher is

more creative. The readout shows **default** until you move the slider; once you set a value, a **Reset to default** link appears below the slider to clear the override.

- **Response length** — Default, Short, Medium, Long, or Max.
- **Model** — Default, or one of the models your company allows.

Choosing **Default** (or resetting the temperature slider) defers to your workspace's configuration. While any override is active, a small dot appears next to the **Sources · N** label; it disappears when everything is back to default. Overrides apply to whatever you send next — in any conversation, not just the one where you set them — until you reset them or reload the page.

## Conversation modes

The **Mode** section is the last section in the same **Sources · N** popover, beneath **Model**:

- **Auto** — Ocho picks the best mode for each message. Right after a reply,

the closed control shows the description of the prompt Ocho picked, with a small **auto** badge; once you leave the conversation, the control reads plain **Auto** again.

- A named mode — each option is shown as a full prompt description with an app

suffix (for example "User wants to work with data tables — … · data-manager"). Selecting one pins the conversation to that instruction set; it takes effect from your next message.

The switcher is disabled until you've sent the first message, and when your workspace has only one prompt. If the mode is pinned by your chat skill's configuration, the switcher is disabled and shows a lock icon.

## Good to know

- Administrators can lock temperature, response length, or model per chat

skill; locked values win even if the picker lets you change them.

- Even unlocked overrides are capped by the server: temperature never exceeds

1.5 (or the skill's own setting, if lower), and response length is limited by the skill's maximum — a picked value may be silently reduced.

- The model list is controlled by your company — if a model you expect is

missing, ask your administrator.
