# Manage datasets

> Rebuild, reorganize, and delete datasets safely.

> Who can do this: users with the Library admin role. Everyone can view datasets. Some edit controls appear for all users, but changes made without the role are rejected by the server.

## Edit dataset details

On the dataset page, click the dataset name to rename it in place, or click **Add a description...** to edit the description inline. Metadata tiles show **Documents**, **Source**, **Last updated**, **Graph updated**, and **Graph entities** at a glance; the graph's Ready/Stale/Failed status badge lives on the **Knowledge Graph** card below. A **Notes** section lets you keep a manual record journal — use **Add note** to start it.

## Add or remove documents

- On the **Documents** tab, **Add from library** attaches existing documents

(never copies them) via the **Add documents from library** picker.

- The tab's table is headed **Attached documents**. Select rows and **Detach**

to remove them from this dataset — the documents stay in the Library and in any other datasets.

## Rebuild

Rebuild after adding or removing significant content, or to change the strategy. On a live dataset the overview shows **Chat ready · Try a new strategy:** with two buttons:

- **Rebuild automatically** opens a **Rebuild with a new strategy?**

confirmation; click **Rebuild dataset** to start the rebuild right away — no questionnaire.

- **Answer questions** opens the **Tell us about this dataset** questionnaire;

answer the questions, then finish with **Save & build with this context** to rebuild. The **Skip — just build it for me** link only closes the questionnaire — despite its label, it does not start a build.

**A live dataset goes offline for a few minutes while it rebuilds** — chat and search skip it until it's live again.

If a build fails or is cancelled, the journey stepper on the overview shows a **Retry build** button.

## Delete a dataset

The **Dataset actions** section on the overview reads: "Delete this dataset only when you no longer need its search setup or graph." Click **Delete dataset**, type the dataset's name exactly to confirm, then click **Permanently delete dataset**. This removes the dataset, its document attachments, chunks, and graph data — but Library documents remain available to attach elsewhere. This action cannot be undone.

## Good to know

- Datasets are managed individually — the list has row checkboxes, but there

are no bulk actions (no bulk delete).

- The **Knowledge Graph** card's **Rebuild from scratch** and **Update graph**

buttons rebuild the graph only — they are separate from the dataset rebuild above.

- Deleting a *document* is different from detaching it: delete removes the

file everywhere and permanently (see [Upload documents](/docs/library/upload-documents)).
