A dataset's knowledge graph is a canvas of nodes — entities Ocho extracted from your documents — connected by relationship edges. You explore it on the Search page. In the Library, a dataset's **Overview** tab shows a **Knowledge Graph** summary card (entity, relation, and community counts) with a **Search this graph** link that opens the Search page's dataset map with that dataset selected — click its cell there to drill into the graph. Not every dataset drills in from the map: the Search page's dataset picker tags some datasets as **no graph**, and their map cells won't open. The tag governs drilling from the map, not whether a graph exists — a search can still auto-drill into a tagged dataset's graph if one is ready. ## The dataset map (multiple datasets) Whenever two or more datasets are available and you aren't drilled into one, the Search page shows a dataset map — one region per dataset, sized by document count; datasets outside your current selection appear dimmed. Hover a region for the dataset's name, document count, and last update (connector- backed datasets also show the connector and last sync). On a graph-backed region the tooltip ends with "Double-click to explore this dataset" — click it to drill into that dataset's graph (a single click works too), then use **Back to map** to return. Regions tagged **no graph** show "No knowledge graph yet" instead and don't respond to clicks. The dataset picker is hidden while you are drilled into a dataset. ## Navigate the graph - **Pan** by dragging empty space; **zoom** with the mouse wheel. - **Drag** a node to move it while you hold it; once you release, the layout takes over again and repositions it. - **Hover** a node to highlight it and its direct connections. - **Click** a node to open the source detail view; click empty space to clear the focused node. - To find an entity by name, type it into the main search box — after two characters the suggestions list shows an **Entities** section. Selecting an entity opens the source detail view on that entity's top passage. ## Search results on the graph After a search, results overlay **document nodes** onto the graph — one per source file, labeled with the filename and connected to the entities its hits mention. A fresh search automatically drills into the top hit's dataset and focuses its document node. Click a document node to open that document's best-matching passage for your current query. ## The source detail view Clicking a node opens a full-screen source detail view: - A mini-graph of the surrounding neighborhood, plus a one-line gist of the passage when the passage has a summary (PDF passages often don't — the header then goes straight to the document toolbar). - **Graph neighbors** and **Search results** tabs — Graph neighbors lists related passages from connected parts of the graph. - **Chat about this** to continue in a chat, and **Open in full source doc** to read the passage in the original document. - **Back to graph** closes the viewer, but it also exits the drilled dataset — you land back on the dataset map, not the graph canvas. The Previous/Next arrows in the header retrace your hops between sources. ## Good to know - Node click targets are small and the layout keeps moving — a near-miss counts as a background click and clears your focused node instead. Zoom in first if a node is hard to hit. - Zooming with a notched scroll wheel moves in small steps; trackpad scrolling zooms more smoothly. - While a graph is building or updating, the dataset's Overview tab shows a "Building knowledge graph" or "Updating knowledge graph" indicator on the Knowledge Graph card, with the current stage. - An amber **Stale** badge on the Knowledge Graph card means documents have changed since the last graph build. If automatic graph updates are enabled for the dataset, it updates on its own; otherwise a dataset administrator can use **Update graph** or **Rebuild from scratch** — see [Knowledge graphs](/docs/library/knowledge-graphs).
